Help! My Baby Has Dry Skin

Dry skin is one of the #1 problems a mother faces with a new baby. Just take a look at this email I recently received from a concerned mother:

Dear Leah,

My daughter is 4 weeks old and has had very dry skin since she was about 2 weeks old. None of the lotions I've tried have helped at all. Now her skin is getting red and bumpy and I don't know what to do.

Help!

Susan S.

Unfortunately more and more babies are getting dry skin and excema than ever before. There are several reasons why dry baby skin is so prevalent, especially in America:

  1. Immediate washing - After a baby is born, he is immediately wisked away from his mother and scrubbed thoroughly with disinfectant soap. This is not only unnecessary, it's also harmful because when babies are born, they are covered with a waxy coating called vernix.

If this coating is rubbed into the skin, rather than washed off, it will help protect your baby's skin from drying out. Baby Dry Skin

  2. Harsh Soaps - Most soaps, even those that hospitals use, contain harsh detergents that strip the skin of its natural oil layers. The more often these soaps are used, the drier your baby's skin will become.

Newborns really don't need to be scrubbed down like this because they don't really get dirty. Just warm water on a soft washcloth is all your baby's skin needs.

  3. Ineffective Lotions - When you apply a typical drug store lotion to your baby's skin all you get is a sticky baby.

Most lotions are formulated with mineral oil and petroleum jelly, two ingredients that have no power to penetrate the skin or help heal the dryness your child is experiencing.

Now that you know why your baby is struggling with dry skin, not you can take the steps to correct it.

Don't waste your time fretting over what was done to your child at the hospital. You can neither control, nor correct, what was done in the past, but you can take steps to heal your baby's dry skin right now.

Step 1: Stop washing your baby with soap - Soap can be drying and irritating to the skin. Babies up to about 18 months old really don't need to be scrubbed down anyway - they just don't get that dirty!

Instead learn how to top and tail your baby with plain water and a soft washcloth so her skin can still get clean, but not dried out by unnecessary soaps.

Step 2: Throw out your lotions and creams - If these products haven't worked for your child yet, they're never going to. Most lotions are formulated so ineffectively you could apply them until the cows come home, but still stuffer from dry skin.

Step 3: Discover a Healing Alternative - Have you ever thought of applying Aloe to your child's skin?

Most people only think of Aloe when they get burned, but Aloe has many more uses than just as a burn remedy:

Baby Dry Skin
  • Prevents bruises from turning purple

  • Soothes sprains and sore muscles

  • Heals cuts and scrapes in no time flat

  • Balances excessively oily skin

  • Calms acne prone skin

  • And Heals Dry Skin!

Applying aloe cut directly from the plant can be messy and annoying. If your baby has dry skin all over her body, you could potentially descimiate your whole Aloe plant in less that a week.

Fortunately there is a very special skin care company that formulates products with more pure Aloe Barbadensis Miller than any other ingredient.

By using L'Bri's Healing Aloe Lotion, your baby's skin will finally find relief from the intense dryness and irritation she has been experiencing. This lotion is actually able to penetrate her skin and soak in to bring instant relief to dry, irritated skin.
