Do You Know What Botox Really Is?

Learn the Truth About the Most Popular Cosmetic Surgery In America

Botulinum Injections, or Botox, is the most popular cosmetic surgery in the US. Women and even men are lining up to get injections that will smooth out their wrinkles and keep them (hopefully) looking younger for just a little while longer.

Unfortunately the price of Botox is not just in the cost of the procedure. A long list of side effects accompanies this surgery and the long term consequences are still very unknown. According to Wikipedia, reactions such as headaches, facial paralysis, flu like symptoms, muscle weakness, difficultly swallowing and allergic reactions are not uncommon.

Though only 28 deaths have been linked to Botox, the long term side effects have yet to be seen. What many women don't know is that Botox is actually paralyzing their facial muscles with the most toxic protein on this planet. The same bacteria that makes us sick with food poisoning is what's being pumped into your face when you get Botox Injections. That's right, Botulinum really stands for Botulism, a bacteria so toxic just 400 grams could concievably kill everyone on Earth.

Used since the 50s to control excessive muscle contractions, it was only recently that the FDA approved this toxin to be used for cosmetic purposes. When the Botulism is injected into the muscle, paralysis of that muscle occurs. The toxin interferes with nerve impulses and causes the muscle to go temporarily flaccid. When applied to the face into deep lines, such as the frown lines between your eyes, your muscles are not able to contract and stretch the skin into those deep wrinkles.

The trade off for Botox seems to be a total lack of facial expression in return for shallower wrinkles. Did you happen to watch the Oscars this year? Many of the actresses were so numb with Botox injections you couldn't even tell if they were happy or sad. My favorite poke at Botox is in the movie "A Cinderella Story" with Hilary Duff. Her evil stepmother has just gotten some bad news and says "I am really, really upset about this." Her evil step daughter asks "You don't look upset?" and the stepmother responds "It's the Botox. I can't show emotion for another hour and a half."

But Botox doesn't last an hour and a half, it lasts for about 6 weeks. When you factor in the time it takes to heal from bruising (10 days) and any adverse reactions you've had to the procedure, you might only be looking at 3-4 weeks of smoother, deep wrinkle free skin. Is this really a cost effective way to look younger?

And without facial expression, do you really feel like you will be truly beautiful? You might look nice from far away, but the second you move to smile, talk, laugh, or frown it will become blatantly obvious that something is seriously wrong with your face. People will look at you and be mesmerized not because they're enraptured with your beauty, but because they're curious and maybe a little horrified by the strange way your face is moving.

Deep wrinkles are a fact of life. It doesn't matter how much sunscreen you wear, eventually your skin will start to wear out from the constant folding action of your facial expressions. Personally I feel that smile lines are a sign you've lived a happy life, not a negative example of how old you are. Shooting Botulism toxins into your skin is not the secret to eternal youth.

But taking care of your skin with healthy, safe,
natural products can make a big difference in how old you look.

Natural Skin Care | BotoxIt can't make up for terrible skin care habits for the last 40 years, but taking care of your skin with healing, effective products will help you find softer, smoother, younger looking skin without damaging chemicals or, in the case of Botox, toxic substances.
