Parabens and L'Bri

Parabens are stabilizers commonly used in skin care products. Until recently they were widely used in skin care and cosmetics to preserve the products from going bad.

Parabens can be listed under the ingredient names: propolyparaben, butylparaben, methylparaben, and ethylparaben
. All are antimicrobial in nature, meaning they prevent the growth of microrganisms (bacteria and mold) around them.

L'Bri Pure n' Natural did use parabens in skin care products until a study came out possibly linking parabens with breast tumors. This study observed the minute amounts parabens were being applied to the body and the amount recovered within human breast tumors.

Though many people have tried to discredit this study, it seems safe to say that there may be connection between parabens and breast cancer.

As we can all learn from the book "The Secret History of the War on Cancer," our government is often the last to take action and ban a particular substance until "absolute proof" is estabilished. Unfortunately while most people are waiting around for more research to be done, women are continuing to use products that may in fact kill them one day.

It's always best to err on the side of caution and stop using ingredients if any adverse effects are found. In the case of parabens, it's time well spent to find products that do not include these preservatives.

L'Bri, along with many natural skin care companies, reacted to this news by changing their formulations to be "paraben-free." Other well known brands such as Avon, Estee Lauder, and Mary Kay, and L'Oreal have yet to reformulate their skin care until more research has been done.

As of January 2008, all L'Bri's natural skin care products and liquid foundations are paraben free. There are a few products that still contain this preservative in very small amounts. Here's a list of the few L'Bri products still containing parabens:

  • Vitamin E Sunstick
  • Klear Away
  • Sunless Tan
  • Pure Relief
  • Sunscreen
  • Blush
  • Brush On Brow
  • Concealer
  • Dual Action Powder Foundation
  • Eye Brow, Eye Liner, Lip Liner Pencils
  • Lipstick
  • Mascara
  • Loose Powder

Unfortunately it is very difficult to formulate most glamour products without parabens. L'Bri does work to create makeup products that are much better than most of the market, but they still have to contain stabilizers, colors, and preservatives in order for the cosmetics to work properly.

L'Bri is an excellent company with pure, effective skin care products.

Here's a list of all L'Bri's skin care products that DO NOT contain parabens:

  • Deep Pore Cleanser
  • Deep Pore Freshener
  • Deep Pore Moisturizer
  • Gentle Cleanser
  • Gentle Freshener
  • Gentle Moisturizer
