The sun is wonderful
and warm and comfortable and it used to be healthy to get some "sunshine
and vitamins" from it. But now we know that's not the case any
longer. The damaging effects of the sun are cumulative over a lifetime.
An estimated 80% of total lifetime sun damage occurs in the first 18
years of life, according to the American Academy of Dermatology.
The sun emits a
number of different types of rays. The rays of the sun are very harmful
and we could not survive in their direct path. Ray is short for radiation.
Ultraviolet radiation, UVR, is divided into three types: UVA, UVB, and
UVC, with UVA being the most damaging.
Any tan is a sign
of skin damage. Tanning occurs when the skin produces additional pigment
(coloring) to protect itself against sunburn from ultraviolet rays.
Overexposure to these invisible rays can cause skin damage. The damage
can be immediate (sunburn, blistering, and rashes) to long-term (cell
and tissue damage, premature wrinkling and skin cancer). Many skin changes
that occur as we age are actually the result of damage from too much
sun.
Sunscreens are not
all alike. Just as all vitamins are not alike, neither are these. It
all has to do with the quality of the ingredients, the manufacturing
process, standards followed, and the intent of the company. L'Bri Pure
n' Natural strives to produce the most natural, effective products on
the market.
SPF stands for Sun
Protection Factor. Keep in mind that the SPF number assumes the sunscreen
was applied 30-minutes prior to exposure. If you apply the sunscreen
after being exposed to the sun, the number no longer applies. Also,
if you stay out longer than the SPF claims to protect for, you will
be burned. Sunscreens do not provide total protection; they simply block
only some of the light but some continues to get through, so if you
stand there long enough eventually you will get burned.
After
your day in the sun, you should really care for your skin again.
You want to minimize the effects by cooling the skin down. Check
for sun damage all over your body. Apply a cool lotion, like Natural
Aloe Lotion, but not a greasy cream. Your skin needs to breathe
and not be plugged up. The warmth and redness of the skin indicated
ongoing "burning/damage" and this can only be halted by
something cool. Even a cool washcloth, applied gently will help.
If
you do happen to get burned, liberally apply L'Bri's
Pure Aloe Jelly to the area. The cooling, healing ingredients
will soothe the skin and speed the healing process.
