Hidden Challenge Inside Our Quilt Tops

All pieced quilt tops have seam allowances on the back. Depending on the way the seams are pressed (and consistent pressing is the key!), there may be 5-7 layers of fabric piled up under a seam. 

All we can see from the right side of the quilt top is the stitched seam, and it's easy to forget what is lurking on the wrong side. When quilting over seams like this, your quilting foot may get caught, nudged in the wrong direction, or locked in place completely from the piled fabric.

A Quilting Foot Built for Bulk 

Grace Company's new Super Glide Quilting Foot is designed to help you smoothly quilt over bulky seams. This wide, spoon foot can ease over stacked seam allowances, flattening out the fabric to make it easier to stitch.

The base of the Super Glide foot features two cross-hairs to align with the needle and a much larger, clear plastic base. These features make the Super Glide Foot a great choice for computerized quilting to help you align the needle and precisely place your designs.

How this Glide Foot Helps You Quilt

With the smooth bowl-shaped design, this Super Glide Foot will slip smoothly over bulky seams. The cross hairs and clear base allow for precise needle alignment.

The wide 1-inch (check the size) bowl can be used as a guide for large scale free hand free motion quilting.

But let's be realistic - the Super Glide Foot will not magically allow you to quilt over 12 layers of fabric. If your needle can't pierce it, no quilting foot will change that.

This foot will help you quilt over inconsistent seams, but it's still a good idea to watch out for the bulkiest spots and allow your quilting design to flow around them.
